Glossary

The words you'll meet around Cascade and the rest of these guides, in plain language.

Account (organization). Everything you own in Cascade: your customers, reviews, loyalty program and settings. Nothing is ever shared between two accounts. Your team is invited to the account, so one login can belong to several. See Members and roles.

Store (site). One storefront. Most accounts have exactly one, created when you connect your store. You'd add another for a separate brand, region or domain. See Running more than one store.

Customer. A shopper, known by their email address. Customers come from your store rather than being typed in by hand. Cascade adds its own notes on top: tags, a birthday, and whether they've opted out of marketing email.

Products and orders. Your catalog and purchase history, synced from your store. Cascade doesn't sell anything or track stock; it keeps products so reviews and wishlists have something to point at, and orders so it knows who to ask for a review and what they spent.

Review. A star rating and some words about a product, usually from a named customer. A review is either published (shown on your storefront) or not. See Reviews.

Survey flow. The automatic review request: it waits a set time after an order, emails the customer, and collects their answer. See Collecting reviews.

Loyalty program. The rules of your rewards scheme, built from points. See Loyalty.

  • A rule pairs a trigger with a reward: place an order, write a review, have a birthday, or spend 100 points on a discount.
  • A tier is a level members climb into (Silver, Gold) with its own perks.
  • A membership is one customer's place in your program: their balance, their tier and their history.
  • A reward is something a member has claimed, as a code they use at checkout.

Stamp card. The same idea counted in stamps instead of points: ten coffees, then a free one. See Stamp cards.

Referral. A member's personal link. When a friend follows it and orders, both of them are rewarded. See Referrals.

Wishlist. Products a customer has saved on your storefront. Customers can keep several, name them, and share one by link. See Wishlists.

Widget. The parts of Cascade your shoppers see on your storefront: star ratings, the reviews list, the loyalty page and the wishlist button. See Storefront widgets.

Time zone. Set once under Settings → General. It decides which day an order counts on in your reports, when a birthday reward goes out and when points expire.

For developers

  • Webhook. An HTTP endpoint of yours that Cascade calls when something happens (a review is published, a reward is redeemed). See Webhooks.
  • Secret key (sk_...). Reaches the admin API, holds a set of permissions, and must stay on your server.
  • Publishable key (pk_...). Reaches only the narrower widget API and is safe to put in a page a shopper loads.
  • Slug. A site's short handle, used by imports and widgets.

See Authentication and Custom integration.
